Target Fixation
So
my buddy buys a motorcycle. She’s never ridden one.
She took the MSF course, but because she was going to be
riding a Vespa, the instructors let her take the course
on a scooter (this is
an entirely different thread and outside the scope of my
post). Now she has a Buell Blast. Wants me to
help her learn to ride it…
I do not want this sort of responsibility… I am not a
trained instructor… if she were to be involved in an
accident, I do not want my “training” to be blamed;
hence, I declined to give her any “formal” training.
As such, she hired what appears to be a very thorough
instructor to help her. His Web site is here-->Linky.
I got to looking at the guy’s site and noticed the
case study on Target Fixation. It is a very very long
journal about a lady involved in a very severe accident.
It basically describes the accident and chronicles her
recovery for the next several years.
It happened to me once… not an accident, but target
fixation. Going through some twisties at a pretty rapid
pace... I was coming in pretty hot into one tight
curve… for absolutely no reason that makes any sense,
I stood the bike straight up, and the next thing I knew
I was in the other lane… hard on the brakes. Scared
the complete sh*t out of me. Had another car been coming
the other way, that case study could very well have been
about me. It’s not happened to me again (after
reading several articles on the topic… and
putting what I read into practice), but I have
seen it happen to a few of my buddies… even a couple
of you.
I wanted to give you the link to this case study-->Linky.
It’s a long read… but pretty enlightening…
In addition, I found the following using Google…
