It seems to me that a weak spot
in the Touratech Chain Guard is at the radius near the rear of the
guard. I noticed mine was beginning to crack... and the next
thing I knew, "beginning to crack" had turned into "just about to
fall off!"
Turns out, my chain guard is not the only one going through
this "transformation." I know a few of my buddy's bikes are
doing the same, so I thought I'd share my fix with you... unless
yours is still under warranty, then obviously my recommendation is
to return it to Touratech...
My fix is extremely simple... and I am sure there are other
ways to fix it, but this worked for me...
The first thing I did was to cut and bend a piece of aluminum.
It's about 5" long and an 1" wide. The folded over edge is
about 1/4". A break press will make short work of this.
Just remember to cut it to length, bend it, then make the final
cut on the 1/4" side... Trying to bend a 1/4" side is not so
easy... so bend first, then cut. This is what the bracket
looks like...

Sorta like this...

And in this picture, you can see where it goes...

Note I have the angled side towards the inside of the bike.
This is because I wanted to minimize the intrusiveness of the
"patch"... at least as far as aesthetics was concerned.
Aside from the rivets, the bracket is hardly noticeable.
I drilled four holes in the front part of the guard and riveted
the little bracket on...

Once the bracket was secure to the front, I drilled the
remaining holes and riveted the back in place.
Final product...

And this is what it looks like from the other sides...

Seems pretty strong to me...
I know... not rocket science, but in case you're looking for a
fix to this problem, maybe something similar will work for you.
Peace,
